FAQ

  1. What type of running surfaces on the course?

This course is well marked and seriously flat with no hills. The route begins at the main building of Scarlet Oaks and winds through the Sharonville Commerce Park.  The road is asphalt-paved and safe: no automobile traffic! Sharonville police will stop traffic at the three entrances during the race. Traffic resumes at 10 o’clock. If you decide to leave early, please be considerate of those still finishing the race.

  1. Can I register on the day of the race?

Yes, registration begins at 7:00 am and ends at 8:40 am. Please note that t-shirts (microfiber in 2008!!!)  are guaranteed only to those who register by April 1. However, t-shirts may be available for purchase for a reasonable donation on race day. Microfiber race hats will be given to all participants. In order to start the race on time, registration will stop at 8:40. If you will register on race day, please plan to arrive before 7:30.

  1. Can I win two awards?

The four champions (first male and female in the running and walking divisions) will take home two awards: a champion’s award and a special Bashful Ostrich prize. Also, if a runner finishes in the top 15 and also places in his or her age bracket, he or she can win two awards. If the winner of the fundraiser award or the best-dressed ostrich wins an age bracket award, two awards will be allowed.

  1. Will photos be taken?

Yes, photos of runners and walkers will be taken both for publicity and for our website. Be sure to smile for the photographer!

  1. Can someone pick up my packet for me?

Although we prefer to have each participant pick up his or her own package, we will allow someone else to do this, provided a copy of the registration and a copy of the drivers license is provided.

6.                  Can a race bib be transferred to someone else?

No. Bibs are not transferable. Transferred bibs will result in disqualification.

7.                  Can I get a refund if I get sick or can’t make it?

No refunds. The race will be held if it rains but, in the event of lightning, the race will be cancelled and your payment will go directly to the expenses of the race and to a great cause (tax deductible!). We incur fixed costs for each runner based on registration numbers. As a result, we don’t allow any refunds. Regardless of the weather or if the race is cancelled, the post-race party will be held in the cafeteria with food and door prizes given away, along with best dressed award and best fund raiser award.

8.                  Can a friend or relative join me for part of the race?

In fairness to the other walkers and runners, this will not be allowed. All  participants have paid for entry and we don’t allow any non-registered participants. The entry fee is kept low to encourage participation and to allow all to contribute to a worthy cause.

  1. Can I wear headphones while racing on the Bashful Ostrich course?

Due to safety concerns, we do not permit the wearing of headphones while on the Bashful Ostrich course. Accidents can happen when hearing is compromised. Please be considerate of your fellow runners and walkers and don’t wear headphones or earplugs. Thanks!!

  1. When can I get my results?

We will post results at 10:15. At the awards ceremony, held at 10:20, we will present overall champions with their awards, as well as those placing first in their age brackets. If you finished second or third in your age bracket, you may pick up your prize at the awards

table after 10:30. All results will be posted on the Internet at www.sprunning.com by the evening.

  2. How can I support the sponsors?

It would be nice if you can visit the websites of our sponsors and use their services. Please mention that the Bashful Ostrich 5K sent you there. They would enjoy hearing that since they gave a lot of money for our charities to help the survivors of sexual abuse. Knowing that they help our cause motivates them to continue helping us and making this 5K the largest of its kind in the USA.

  3. Can I bring pets to the race?

The only pet you can bring is your pet ostrich, if you have one. Or you can dress up like one and try to win our best-dressed award. But, please, please, no dogs or cats for a number of reasons.
